Goals of Computers in the Classroom

  • To increase quality of education.

  • Make classrooms more conducive to learning.

  • Make instructors more efficient.

  • Allow for more attention to individual students.
4
What is the Interactive Classroom?
  •  The Interactive classroom is a top to bottom solution, part network and part web, that will change the way we look at education.

  •   Fully redundant and secure network that will initially interconnect 60 users and is scalable up to 750 users.

  •   A web application that will provide real time interaction between the professor and the students.

"Full redundancy and reliability"
  • Full redundancy and reliability
  • Enhanced security from unwanted traffic
  • Scalability for future expansion
  • Elimination of collision domains in relation to CSMA/CD
  • Excellent support for traffic-intensive users (i.e. graphical apps or streaming video )
  • Provides full functionality for wired or wireless users

14
What is Virtual Private Networking (VPN)?
  • Ability to send/receive data between two computers across the Internet

  • Utilizes PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol)

  • Allows users at home or on the road to connect securely to a remote server

15
Types of VPN
  • Intranet Virtual Private Networking

  • Extranet Virtual Private Networking

  • Access Virtual Private Networking

16
VPN Tunneling
  • Architecture that is designed to provide the services necessary to implement any standard point-to-point encapsulation scheme.
