Abstract

The purpose of project for Media Riche classroom delivery is to design and implement a working video classroom system that can be integrated into WebCT, streamed live over the internet, and produced onto a CD for students who do not have a broadband connection. This system will take the form of either a stationary or mobile variant. A stationary system would involve a designated classroom that will be “multimedia ready” which will require minimal setup by the professor and most likely will not require a technician’s presence. A mobile system would compose of a small footprint PC, a Firewire technology based camera, and a portable audio recorder. While this will allow greater flexibility in the deployment of the system, it will most likely require the professor to go through training on how to setup and operate the equipment or the hiring of an outside technician to oversee the recording. Also, stringent security measures would have to be taken to ensure that the equipment would not be tampered with or stolen in either form of deployment. This system has a lot of potential to not only improve the quality of learning here at Stevens, but in the educational industry in general.
