This project seeks to develop an adaptive communication system using software defined radio. SDR has enabled radio processing to reach a new level as it has allowed for the switch from analog to digital. SDR allows for ease of design, multimode operation, flexibility to incorporate additional functions, use of advanced signal processing techniques as well as many other functions.

The group was able to write software which enables users to define operating parameters of a transceiver and adjust to random signals. For example, if a certain frequency is too noisy or congested, the transceiver recognizes this and switches to the appropriate frequency. Furthermore the software-defined radio adjusts the data rate according to the noise level in the channel. The group implemented this system using an Amplitude Shift Keying modulation scheme to transmit data. The software for this project was written using Visual Basic and was implemented onto the Flex Radio (SDR-1000).
