Weekly status:

Include discussion of what you accomplished this week, who you contacted, what decisions were made, what obstacles were identified, how they are being addressed.

·        This week a lot was accomplished.  In the beginning of the week, we had a meeting with Prof. Tureli.  He suggested we talk to Nilay and Theo (another grad student) to discuss our progress.  He also gave us some advice on what our ultimate goal should be.  Our project is now going to focus on receiving GSM signals from different cellular providers in multiple locations on campus, analyzing them and seeing if we can find some similarities or differences amongst them, in the hope that we could come up with an idea of how to make the spectrum usage more efficient.  It is better for us to work on GSM alone because it is a more simple protocol than CDMA and, frankly, we don't have enough time to look at both.

·        This week we also went to the Wireless Research Lab.  We looked at the COM blocks and their setups so that in the future we would understand how to design our own setup.

·        Towards the end of the week we had a meeting with Nilay and Theo.  Nilay is going to help us with the matlab code for GSM.  Prof. Tureli feels that our senior design project shouldn't be focused on learning how to write a matlab code for GSM, but rather to understand GSM, its signals, and to analyze it in a way that may serve as a proof of concept for the research community (and we agree!).

·        Theo explained to us the process of our senior design project, as he has worked on similar projects many times before.  He suggested that first we focus on what frequencies we will use and our final system design.

·        By the end of February, we will be ready to start taking data.

·        This upcoming week, we plan on having another group meeting, as well as a meeting with Prof. Tureli.
